Gameplay information
An indefinitely high score can be achieved in classic mode. The main goal is to never be left without a move. Important factors in being sure you always have a move is to think ahead (what is the board likely to be after I make a particular move) and to accumulate hypercubes. Hypercubes will always match a single cube next to them, destroy all cubes of the same color, and in my experience, always provide you with further new moves.
Unlike other Bejeweled games, there is no penalty for clicking on Hint. This is rarely helpful. If you don't see a normal move, then you probably don't have one, and it will point you to one of your hypercubes.
Be careful with the star and flame cubes. They cause me more trouble than help. Keep them away from your all-important hypercubes. As soon as you see that you can blow them up without harming a hypercube, my advice is to do so.
Always be looking for way to build a 5 cube match to gain another hypercube. You can't have too many. You will have to use them eventually and you need to replace the ones you lost. It is not unusual to have 5 or 6 hypercubes at once with practice. This will create an almost certain need to use one as there is less room for regular moves.
I have not played any mode other than classic, so strategy may be different with other modes. I try to avoid making flame and star cubes, but do so when it looks safe (ie. they will be on the opposite side of the board of all my hypercubes, and those devilish star cubes are not in a column or row with any hypercube. If you have no other moves, except one involving a star cube or a flame cube that will destroy one or more hypercubes, it is best to use the hypercube in danger than to use the flame or star cube.
I have nothing more logial to say. Just accumulate hypercubes, use them only when necessary, avoid dangerous flame and star cubes, and constantly be thinking of how to build a 5 cube match for another hypercube. It seems to happen more often than chance would allow.
