History

Bookworm replaced Bespelled on 2007-08-09. Game play is essentially the same for the two games, with only minor differences such as additional bonus-point tiles.

Object Of The Game

The object of the game is to find words in the playfield. Minimum wordlength is 3 letters (words like Qua are valid words, even it's just 2 tiles long).
The maximum wordlength is 10 (See 10 Letter Words below). Although the game's dictionary also contains longer words, you just can't make them.

Scoring System

score=(wordvalue + level) * (wordlength + bonus) * 10;

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxy z
144315311872421472122567610

wordvalue is the sum of all letter values

for each green bonus tile add 2 to bonus

for each gold bonus tiles add 4 to bonus

for each sapphire bonus tiles add 7 to bonus

for each diamond bonus tiles add 10 to bonus

wordlength is the length of the word (a "Qu" tile counts as 2 letters)

Bonus words scoring (on top of what you get for the letters)

1st word = 1,000

2nd word = 2,000

3rd word = 4,000

4th word = 6,000

5th word = 10,000

6th word = 15,000

7th word = 20,000

8th word = 25,000

9th word = 30,000

10th word = 40,000

11th word and on score = 50,000

Bugs

  • In Bookworm, you don't get the bonus points for the bonus words. It does show the bonus value popping up on the play field, but it never gets added to your score. This bug is fixed since 2008-05-23.

10 Letter Words

  • When you can spell a word of 10 letters, you can add additional letters even when it does not make a valid word and it will still score.

Potential for Badges

  • ML10 is achievable at level 35 in game.
  • The LTP10/ML10 ratio is 248 games, which is quite low. However, earning enough points for an ML10 can take quite a while.
