Tips to get a high score

There are only 4 levels to the free online game. So a little manipulation is needed.

Level 1

Just get through the level as quickly as possible. If you are able to get through without losing a life, a mermaid will come across the screen and give you some bonus starfish.

Level 2

This is where you have to do a little work. Eat away until you grow to the medium size fish. Then sit at the bottom of the screen in between the two shells, and wait for the 1up's to appear. Try not to eat any fish, but go ahead and eat the starfish bubbles that come up. They won't advance your level meter but will give you points. Get as many extra lives as you can stand to play.

Level 3

No hints. Just go as fast as you can.

Level 4

Try not to eat any fish accept for the pink school of fish. Use your 'sucking' ability to eat the whole school to get the 'school bonus'. Once you grow to the medium size fish, stay there. Watch the meter at the top of the screen. When you are about to grow to the large size fish, let your self be eaten. The meter will go all the way back, and you can build start over. With all the extra lives from Level 2, you should be able to grab 50,000 points easily.

Kaleto's Tip as posted in the 1000 Badges Club

After the bonus level, if you hit the "Learn to Play" button then "Return to my Game", it will re-add in your bonus points. This can be done an infinite number of times. If on the bonus level your time left is fairly high, like 20+ seconds, it doesn't take long to get your score up to 50,000. This trick also works to increase your food bank after the other levels, too, but in the free game this has no advantage, so it's only worth doing after the bonus level. After the bonus level your mouse becomes inactive as it tallies your score. If you repeatedly try this trick as soon as your mouse pointer is active again, it only takes a few minutes to increase your score greatly (assuming you have a decent bonus round--that's essential).

Potential for Badges

  • As you can see from the tips section, ML10 is possible.
  • The LTP10/ML10 ratio is 704 games. However, since getting ML10 requires using point-optimizing techniques which are kind of tedious, it may be faster and/or more enjoyable to play games straight through, for fewer points per game.
