The Game

The aim in Puzzle Express is to fill up train cars with puzzle pieces within a set time.

Scoring

Each puzzle piece placed equals points -

Piece Area Points Density

Brown Rectangle25025
Grey Corner37525
Pale Pink Rectangle37525
Green Square410025
Dark Blue 'I'412531,25
Turquoise 'T' 420050
Purple 'L' 425062,5

Dark Pink/Yellow 'S/Z' 427568,75
Green Cross 640066,67

Green 'C'5750150

These points are multiplied if the piece placed completes more than one horizontal line on the puzzle. To increase your high score, the key is to complete multiple horizontal lines with the highest scoring pieces available on each level. This not only gives an individual points boost, but it adds to your "Skill bonus" at the end of each level.

Pieces with stars multiply the points for the piece, and also the points for completing lines by the number on the star.

Game Over

The game ends immediately if the conveyor belt fills up with pieces or after a level if you exceed the average loading time.

Other Hints

  • Press the help button to pause the game.
  • Spacebar or click outside train car to rotate piece.
  • Individual red pieces are on a separate conveyor and can be used to fill small gaps. There are a limited number each level, and these are not carried over to the next level. A small green bar above these red pieces shows how near you are to earning a new piece. Completing lines in the puzzle increases the green bar. Red pieces can also be earned by placing puzzle pieces which have a red box on them.
  • A trains timer doesn't start to run until you place a puzzle piece into it.
  • The trains are numbered at the head end, so you can tell how many trains are yet to come.
  • Unwanted pieces can be dropped into the cargo return - although this adds time to your train timers. The first piece dropped each level adds 5 seconds, then 10, 15, 20, 25 and then 30. Each piece dropped after that also adds 30 seconds.
  • The last line(s) finished on each train doesn't appear to be added to your score, so try not to save a large combo for last.
