Tips
Higher scores can generally be made in the earlier levels when you have time to think. My goal is to light all nine rockets simultaneously while there are numerous coins on the fuse. This allows for as many as 900,000 bonus points for that single event. My strategy is to begin a level by lighting one rocket at a time (or perhaps two, if necessary.) I choose the rocket which will allow me to burn the most straight and curved bits of fuse in the two right-hand columns; those nearest the rockets. As these columns become rich in fuses shaped as T's and crosses, the potential for a nine-rocket shot increases substantially. I avoid taking coins in the early parts of rounds so that there may be some left on the board to acquire along with a nine-rocket shot. This multiplies the 100,000 point nine-rocket bonus by up to nine times. Ideally, and typically, the nine-rocket shot will end a level so that your next level begins with many coins. If you get the coins late in the level, you may never get to use them and they are lost when the level changes. It can be helpful to complete a level at the last minute so that you get points for your acquired coins rather than the usual rocket upgrades.
Playing Rocket Mania with Vista
Rocket Mania will not load if Protected Mode is enabled in Internet options. To disable this feature to play the game, follow the steps below.
- Close any Internet browser windows that are open.
- Click "Start" and then "Control Panel." If the Control Panel window is empty, click "View all Control Panel" Options in the left section of the window to display all the icons.
- Double-click "Internet Options." You may need to click the "Network and Internet Connections" icon before clicking "Internet Options."
- Click the Security tab and uncheck “Enable Protected Mode.”
- Click “OK.”
- Now try playing the game again.
- Once you are finished playing, follow these steps again to re-enable Protected Mode
Playing Rocket Mania with AVG
It is not necessary to uninstall AVG antivirus to get Rocket Mania to work. There is a long discussion and numerous trouble shooting tips in the RM forum about AVG. http://boards.msn.com/Gamesboards/thread.aspx?threadid=308041&boardsparam=Page%3d12
However, here is a quick synopsis of what I believe has worked for several people.
- Open the AVG User Interface, either from the Start menu, or right click the icon in the bottom right corner.
- On the menu choose Tools, then Advanced Settings.
- Click on Resident Shield on the left side. Uncheck Report Potentially Unwanted Programs and Spyware Threats
- Then click on PUP Exceptions. Add exception. In the file name field put popcaploader.dll. Click the box at the bottom that says “any location – do not use full file path.”
- Try to start a game of Rocket Mania. This time, it should bring up a different box where you can add the dll as an exception.
- Once you have gotten the game to properly load, it should be safe to go back to the Advanced Settings and recheck the Resident Shield Option to Report Potentially Unwanted Programs and Spyware Threats.
