Getting lifetime total points level 10

Getting LTP 10 using the tips below is theoretically possible in 5 games.
That being said, it is most likely in about 20-40 games.

Getting mastery level 10

  1. In the main menu, go to options and turn tutorials OFF.
  2. When you first start the game, go to the Shipwright.
  3. Select your ship on the left, and sell all five of your cannons.
This will increase your cash on hand to 12500 dinari.
The ship that you start with has a max cargo capacity of 75.
    Cannons use 10 cargo each.
Therefore you should now have 75 available cargo spaces.
  4. Then go to the Moneylender and borrow max.
This will increase your cash on hand to 37500 dinari.
  5. Then go back to the Shipwright and buy two cannons.
  6. Then go to the Marketplace and check prices against the COST CHART below to find out which items are in the "cheap enough to buy" range.
  7. If you can spend all your money and not fill your ship, then buy it. If not, then buy a second ship (I always get two cannons), and spend as much as you can.
  8. When you reach the next port (I suggest Babelah), see if you can sell for a profit. If you can, do it. then check your cash on hand and see if it is double what you borrowed.
  9. If it is, go to the Moneylender and repay max, then borrow max.
  10. Buy and sell as much as you can.
  11. Buy new ships whenever you feel you can afford it.
  12. As new ship types become available, buy them (if you can afford it).
  13. I have found that using a rotation of the ports seems to bring the new ship types faster. You need to actually win battles to earn the new ships so it does involve some luck as well. My suggestion:
    1. Al Khazam
    2. Babelah
    3. Hallicau
    4. Repeat until Moon 6 (see below).

Cannons and combat

Early in the game I get 2 cannons per ship for the first 5 ships, then stop.
Additional ships I use as barges (no cannons) until I get the larger ships which I also arm (preferably with the stone golems).
Some would say flee all combat. I say fight. You do get at least 4000 dinari per ship you battle.
If you have a barge (unarmed ship), flee it if it is getting hit.
When facing a large number of ships, I suggest concentrating your fire on the weakest enemy (click the single cannon icon lower left of the battle screen).
As I get the larger ships, I arm them with the stone golems. For a Junk I get 2 stone golems, and for the Galley and Caravel I get 4 each.
For every two stone golems I buy, I sell two regular cannons giving me additional cargo space.

Turning a true profit

The best way to turn a true large profit, is not to buy only the most expensive items, but to invest as much of your money as possible.
For example if you buy 55 crates of salt @ 10 dinari each, and sell them at 30 dinari each, you made a 200% profit, but only 1100 dinari.
If you can invest, at the beginning, all of your 28500 dinari and get a 20% overall return you wil have gotten 5700 dinari profit.
Buy as much as you can of the larger ticket items (see cautions below),
then progressively buy smaller ticket items until your cargo is full, or you have no more money to invest.

Cost chart

As you can see from the chart below, the high ticket items do not offer the highest profit.
DO NOT EXPECT TO SEE THE HIGH COST PRICE VERY OFTEN, Some of these I have seen only once or twice.

Cautions

Cargo can be confiscated!!!

With a few pointers, it can be mostly avoided

  1. The two confiscated items are Rugs and Gunpowder. (It is mentioned in their descriptions in the game's cryptic text style.)
  2. The contraband items are only contraband in that port for 1 "calendar" moon.
  3. If you are at the end of a moon, and Gunpowder is at 5000, DO NOT INVEST ALL OF YOUR MONEY IN IT.
You could find yourself in the next port with no money, no cargo, and a large debt.
Instead, only invest half your money in the "contraband" items.
  4. If you haven't traveled to a port yet that moon, don't take contraband items, you could lose them.

Moon 6

During moon 6, you want to plan to be in Al Khazam on the 25th.

When you set sail for Al Khazam on the 18th, say a little prayer that you do not encounter a storm.

When in Al Khazam, sell all your cargo, and don't buy any more.

Sell all your ships except the smallest one.

Sell all of your cannons from that smallest ship.

Repay your debt and put all your cash on hand into the bank to get the 1.5% interest.

Sail empty to any other port.

If you encounter pirates, use as many of your curses as you can to try and win so you can get the extra dinari.

If you die from the pirates, NO BIG DEAL. All your winnings are in the bank, so you lose NOTHING.

If the game ends and you have a negative balance, close the game window and do not report your score!!
A negative score will reduce your lifetime total points.

The ports

Al Khazam

This is your starting port.

Al Khazam has the following buildings :

  1. Shipwright
  2. Bazaar
  3. Moneylender
  4. Bank

  6. Temple
  7. Palace
  8. Storage Warehouse

Hallicau

Hallicau has the following buildings :

  1. Bazaar
  2. Bank
  3. Magic Shop
  4. Temple
  5. Palace

Babelah

Babelah has the following buildings :

  1. Shipwright
  2. Bazaar
  3. Moneylender
  4. Temple
  5. Palace

The buildings

Shipwright

At the shipwright, you can do the following tasks :

  1. Buy and sell your cannons
    1. Regular cannons
    2. Heavy cannons
    3. Stone Golems
  2. Buy and sell ships
    1. Dhow
    2. Junk
    3. Galley
    4. Caravel
  3. Repair your ships
    1. Repair all the damage to all your ships
    2. Repair damage in part or in full to individual ships

Bazaar

At the bazaar, you can do the following tasks :

  1. Buy cargo
  2. Sell cargo

When buying or selling you can use the max button to puchase as much as you can affor or hold.
You can use the arrow buttons to adjust the number one crate per click.
Or you can click the area where the number appears, and type in how much you want using your keyboard.

Money Lender

This is where you borrow and repay loans.

Loans incur simple interest @ 10% calculated at the beginning of each Moon.

I suggest not repaying and re-borrowing until you have twice what you had previously borrowed. (exception : see Moon 6)

Bank

If you are having a really good game, you can deposit funds in the bank that you cannot spend and accrue interest @ 1.5% calculated at the beginning of each Moon.
On the 25th day of Moon 6, you should deposit all funds in the bank to get the 1.5% interest for your total score.

Magic Shop

In the Magic shop you can the following :

  1. Buy Magic Items
  2. Sell Magic Items
  3. Buy Magic Curses
    1. Ifrit Fire
      • You start with 5
      • These do more damage that a regular cannonball
    2. Lodestone
      • You start with 5
      • These will break an enemy cannon and do damage to their ship greater than a heavy cannonball
    3. Plague of Bees
      • You start with 10
      • These will distract your enemy from firing at you for a short period of time
BUG: if you use 2 of these on the same enemy, then when the first beehive wears off that enemy will retain the ability to fire at you until it's destroyed and any further beehives you use on it will have no effect.
    4. Wrath of Djinn
      • You start with 1
      • This will do great damage to an enemy ship.
        • Enough to kill a small enemy or a Junk.
        • Will almost destroy an undamaged Galley.
        • will do great damage to a Caravel, but won't destroy it.

Temple

To those of us playing the online version of this game, the Temple is useless !
When playing the download or full version, the Temple can give you advice on what will be a good price when and where.
Sadly this advice almost always starts in Moon 9... 3 Moons after the online version ends.

Storage Warehouse

DOWNLOAD OR FULL VERSION ONLY
In the full or download version of the game, you can buy goods at a very low price and store them here for a small fee until the price skyrockets.

Palace

DOWNLOAD OR FULL VERSION ONLY
In the download or full version you can go to the Palace and receive a special task to perform for the sultan.
For example ; bring the Hallicau sultan 30 crates of Al Khazam wine for less than 3000 dinari and keep the change.
